I would have been 15 or 16 when, coming in from outside, I saw Mom sitting at the counter, intent on the paperwork in front of her. I sat on the next stool in the manner of inquiring as to what she was doing. Through that afternoon, I learned how to balance a checkbook (to the penny). Far more valuable was the established precedent for many conversations that took place between me and my mother at those kitchen bar stools. We shared a good deal of time for which I have always been grateful. Thanks Mom, Love ya!
